He is Risen: Celebrate with the Easter Bunny!

Easter is the greatest news from God for He is Risen!

Easter marks the end of the 40-day period of fasting and repentance.  But for children, it’s the time for cute EASTER BUNNIES, EGG HUNTING, JELLY BEANS, MARSHMALLOW CHICKS, and CHOCOLATE EGGS! Yum yum!  I’m sure your sweet tooth won’t mind sharing the extra calories these candies bring.  It is after all a time for celebration and rejoicing.

But that’s where the difficulty arises.  Despite the many cute bunnies and all the candies from all the picnics, the message of Easter Sunday sadly gets drowned by its commercialism.  It actually makes other Christians resort to calling this occasion as Resurrection Day instead.

As a parent, how can you celebrate a FUN Easter and help your children understand the resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ?

  • Resurrection Eggs.  Use the cute Easter Bunny to teach about how Christ has risen!  Instead of eggs containing only candies, include memory-grabbing objects telling the story of Christ’s journey in Earth.  You can focus on his resurrection and his ascension to Heaven.  These Resurrection Eggs from Nest Learning are cute and perfect for a Sunday Egg Hunting activity after church! Make sure you order them early as these sell like hotcakes! Also to make sure it arrives in time for Easter!
  • Easter Decorations.  Make meaningful Easter decorations that don’t entirely revolve around Easter Bunnies and colorful eggs.  You can decorate a table setting reminiscent of spring or the olden days.  Make a Piñata filled with Resurrection Eggs if you don’t have a large backyard for Egg Hunting.
  • Film Showing.  What better way to spend a quiet Easter Day with the family! After attending Church service, you can watch animated films about Jesus and his life on Earth.  Just pop in that DVD. Eazy Peezy! A great way to help your children learn about Jesus’ resurrection and ascension.  You can even get an interactive DVD like “He is Risen” which includes activity books containing puzzles and coloring pages.
  • Create a Special Easter Meal and Role Play.  You can try to recreate a meal that consists of traditional food that Jesus and his Apostles may have had during Passover.  Unleavened bread. Spring Vegetables.  If your kids are picky eaters, try making pancakes shaped likes donkeys or maybe just get them to dress up like Roman Guards and tell them stories while you are all at it. Kids LOOOVE role playing. It’ll make it fun and easy for them to retain what they learn.

There are a lot of other FUN ways you can think of to help your young children learn about Jesus and his resurrection and ascension.  The Easter Bunny doesn’t have to be a bad thing either.  Easter also marks spring season and bunnies come out on spring.  The eggs also symbolize new life and it makes it more enjoyable for kids, whether you’re all from the same church or not.  Just be ready to explain to your children the difference between the two symbols of Easter.  Besides, it’s a happy time for Christians and a great time to be Christian-like.

He is Risen after all.

Choosing Homeschool Curriculum to Supplement Traditional School

There is an abundance of school material and curricula available when choosing homeschool curriculum. They vary greatly, so it can be overwhelming for a new homeschooling family.

A full breadth curriculum – Alpha Omega Curriculum and LifePak, for example – is designed to teach five core subjects and a few electives go along with it. A specific-subject curricula approach, on the other hand, focuses on mastery of subject and easily supplements any chosen curriculum – this is perfect for parents who want to reinforce lessons taught in traditional school.

Look into a one-stop resource like Nest Homeschool Curriculum.  Their supplements vary from a full-breadth curriculum to a specific-subject approach curriculum, and are perfect supplements for private/public school education.

Find out where your child is good at doing or need more focus. Sometimes it is easier to supplement your child’s education than forcing them to catch up on school work.  Supplements from Nest Homeschool Curriculum can be easily incorporated in the daily activities you enjoy with your child.

For instance, when they read books, you can encourage them to write about their daily activities with the instructional help of Shurley English.  The Shurley method is memorization of grammar rules and terms through jingles! Just get ready to join in their singing; it’ll sure get stuck in everyone’s head.  Even homeschooling mom and amazing blogger, Shez, was able to apply this to teaching her son Mathematics.

Another program you can use is Worldly Wise 3000.  You can apply the vocabulary program easily when you converse with your child. The program has word lists on new words learned, and also includes picture cards and introduces 150 new words to 400 new words per year to your child.  The beautiful part is their flexible lesson plans that allow you to complete them in less than half an hour.

While Math can be tough for most people, you can make it easy and fun.  Saxon Math can be assimilated in your daily activities as well.  You can count money and change, calculate how long until their favorite TV show or how long until meatlooaf night! The program is scripted for the parent and has a step by step approach making it easier to follow and develops logical thinking.  Try reading out the instructions for your child and apply the concepts creatively, you can make learning Math concepts fun and maybe even help you out of your Mathematic trauma!

Nest Learning Homeschool Curriculum all come with simple-to-understand lesson plans that will help you give instruction easier and provide you with immediate feedback, allowing you to easily track your child’s progress.download full movie Bad Moms

Who knows, with the help of these supplements, your child could easily be the next great poet or Zig Ziglar or create their own multinational corporation like Henry J. Heinz.

Clearly, choosing homeschool curriculum doesn’t have to be a chore!

5 Homeschool Methods You Should Consider

The middle of July seems like an odd time to start thinking about school, but not if you are a homeschooling parent that is in the process of deciding which teaching method to use in the fall.  Although homeschooling is not a new concept, the different methods that can be used to teach have drastically increased since the beginning of homeschooling. With each homeschooling method, there are potential pros and cons. Many of the differences in homeschooling methods boil down to differences in how you view education, how much you want to be involved in teaching, the amount of structure your child needs, and what you want them to learn.
We have compiled a small list of methods to get you started on your research and thought process, while you still have time to decide and choose the best method for you.

The Classical Home Schooling Method:

Based on the philosophy of education used in ancient Greece and in Europe during the Middle Ages, this is a rigorous style of education that views education in three phases. These stages correspond to the development of a child’s ability to reason.  One example of this method is the Memoria Press curriculum, which is designed to be accessible to homeschool families who have no familiarity with the subject being taught. This method works well if you are looking for structure and want to be fairly involved as a teacher.

Computer-Based Home Schooling Method:

As this type of home schooling method is becoming more popular, there are increasing varieties of how students use the computer for their home schooling. Some computer-based curriculums have the curriculum on CDs or DVDs, such as Switched-On Schoolhouse.  This method works  best if you need to find a way to not be involved so much in the day-to-day process of your child’s education, though you would be available to give help and general guidance, and if you have a child who likes being able to work at his own pace and use the computer.

Literature-Based Home Schooling Method:

Rather than use textbooks, this can be rather dry and uninteresting to many children, literature-based curriculums use “living books”. Students read historical fiction, first-person accounts and books written by people with a passion for their subject. This is a good method to choose if you value having your child love to read and if you want to be involved in the day-to-day process of your child’s education. By reading these living books, he or she will love to read!Watch Full Movie Online Streaming Online and Download

The Unschooling/ Relaxed Method:

In the unschooling approach, the parent offers support, resources and encouragement, and the child leads the way in learning. In this home school method, the belief is that the child will learn best if he is interested and self-motivated.  This is a good method if you want your child to have the freedom to follow their own interests, and if you have enough confidence in the process of learning that you don’t mind if not all of your child’s learning can be documented by a written test.

Textbook-based/Traditional Home School Method:

This homeschooling method bases its model on the traditional idea of a classroom school, with workbooks and textbooks.  Some of the most popular textbook-based curricula come from AOP and Bob Jones University.  If your desire is to have your child studying material in a similar scope and sequence as other public or private schools, then you may want to purchase curriculum that comes from a well-known publisher, such as these.  This method works well if you desire the style of a classroom school and want your child to experience that at home, and if your child is able to do well and learn through fill-in-the-blanks and quizzes.

Although this can feel like an exhausting process to think about in July, this list by no means is exhaustive in its potential methods to think about implementing for the school year.  When you have decided which method is best for you, we hope that you will visit NEST Learning. NEST Learning understands Homeschool Curriculum as part of your child’s education, and we provide Homeschool curriculum books, textbooks, workbooks, software, and complete Homeschool curriculum packages from many of the most respected Homeschool publishers including, Wordly Wise, Alpha Omega Publications, BJU Homeschool, Apologia Educational Ministries, Saxon Homeschool.

Planning Your Homeschool Curriculum for Fall 2011!

While summer is in full swing across the nation, many homeschooling families are planning out what the fall school semester will look like for their children and choosing their homeschool curriculum materials. Although there is no reason to sound the alarms and call an end to summer, there is definitely a need to check your calendar and count how many weeks until school starts.

There are a few things that you’ll want to have in order before classes actually get started for the new school year. This may be a good time to clean out any clutter that has been left behind from previous years of homeschooling, or the general clutter that busy families tend to create and leave behind. Perhaps you still need to find a support group that will be a good fit for you and your homeschooling family, or some extra-curricular groups. This is even an ideal time to start streamlining some meal planning in advance while you have the time to teach older kids how to cook.

One of the biggest obstacles for you to overcome is the research and purchase of the homeschool curriculum that best suits your family’s needs. This is one of the things on your list that is best done now, while you are fresh off of the semester, than later, when your judgment is hazed by the glow of summer. Make a list of what has been successful in the past, or ask other homeschooling moms what curriculum they like best and why. Make sure that you have exhausted all of your questions and that you have asked about any additional details before making a decision on the best homeschool curriculum for you.Watch Full Movie Online Streaming Online and Download

Switched-On Schoolhouse 2011Some of the most widely used curriculums are heavily promoted during the month of July. Alpha Omega Publishing (or AOP), is a Christian publishing company that proudly provides quality, Bible-based curricula for students in preschool through 12th grade. Their Christian curriculum choices include Switched-On Schoolhouse, LIFEPAC, Horizons, and The Weaver Curriculum. Saxon Math and Phonics is the nation’s best-selling and most thoroughly researched skills-based mathematics program for grades K-12, and Saxon curriculum has consistently been one of homeschoolers’ top choices when it comes to math curriculum. Rosetta Stone Homeschool features predefined curriculum paths for learning, so parents can be sure their students are moving forward… even if parents don’t speak the language themselves. The choices are endless, but only you can know what will be the most suitable choice for your family.

Once you are ready to purchase your homeschool curriculum materials, don’t wait! Give yourself time to order it, receive it and review it carefully before your school season begins. Not only will this allow you to check off one very major important decision on your list, it will give you more time to enjoy your friends and family, and enjoy the fun that comes with the season of summer.
