Southern comedian Anita Renfroe is back with a pitcher of that Big Ol Sweet Iced Tea, and I give this highly refreshing Christian comedy two thumbs-up and 5 full stars for making me laugh so hard, my cheeks actually hurt!

The sassy, hilarious Christian comedian has gone from domesticated mom to YouTube sensation overnight, and it isn’t surprising—the world seems to have fallen in love with Anita’s mint brand of comedy that’s cleverly infused with a sure shot of estrogen, blended with musical parodies and daily hilarities . . . Whoever said comedy has to be offensive and crass certainly hasn’t met Anita!

In her spanking new DVD called Big Ol Sweet Iced Tea, Anita Renfroe will make you laugh with her wacky, out-of-this-world insights, her music and her trademark pop culture parodies including the following songs “Wrinkled Ladies” (my personal favorite, actually) and “Real Love Story”, “Grandma-Sense”, “Miss America Tricks”, “GPS For Babies”, “Apps, Staycations, and Hissy Fits”, “Enough”, and “Parting Wisdom”.

Filmed in her hometown of Atlanta, GA before a sold out crowd, this Christian comedy has gone viral in only a matter of weeks since its release in July 2010.  Everyone agrees; this is absolutely good comedy!

What are you waiting for?  Get a copy of Anita Renfroe’s Big Ol Sweet Iced Tea today, and begin the laughter!

Live Butterfly Garden Rising to Be a Top Educational Toy

Live Butterfly Garden

Live Butterfly Garden

One of the educational toys on the market that is gaining huge popularity for its creativity, learning aspects and entertainment is the Live Butterfly Garden for kids by Insect Lore.

With a live butterfly garden you can explore the life of insects with live butterfly, ladybug, ants and other insect kits for education and home use. Insect Lore (a creator of live butterfly garden kits) lets kids witness the wonder of the butterfly life cycle with child-and-insect friendly habitats. Kids can see the caterpillar’s transition as it grows, changes into a chrysalis, and finally emerges as a lady butterfly.

A live butterfly garden comes with a mesh cage and 5-6 larvae that will turn into caterpillars and then into butterflies. All of the food that will be needed is provided.

with this educational toy, kids watch the progress of the larvae turning into a caterpillar, the caterpillar spinning his cocoon, and then the butterfly emerging in just a few weeks time. Kids will then have to let the butterflies go after 3 days so they can find food.

The live butterfly garden and other Insect Lore products teach kids about science and nature and the process in which different insects go through. It also teaches kids to learn to let things go for the benefit of nature and others.

I bought this educational toy before for my 4-year-old niece and it has been one of her favorite gifts to date. It is something that most people do not think to give and is very exciting for kids.

One of the greatest rewards is when we receive letters from kids telling us how much they love our products and how they have impacted their lives. We would like to start posting any letters that we receive from your kids below. The letters can be about anything to do with one of our products that they had the chance to view. We really appreciate you as our fans and our customers!!

You can fax your letters to the attention of Amy Upton at (800) 221-8729, scan them and e-mail to nfblog@nestfamily.com or by mail to:

Movie Theaters Raising Their Prices

Movie Night

Movie Night

With movie prices increasing to rise between 2.7% and 6.1% a year, it can easily costs teens and parents what once was  $5.50 a decade ago up to $11 a piece for a regular movie and almost up to $20 a ticket for a 3-D Imax film ticket. How are kids even affording to go out anymore making minimum wage. Guess what? Their rising again!

According to the Motion Picture Association of America, due to an increase in popularity of 3-D movies and the ever growing revenue from consumers continuing to buy movie theater tickets, movie theater chains such as Regal Entertainment Group, Cinemark Holdings Inc. and AMC Entertainment Inc. decide that the demand means they might be able to raise their prices even more and continue to get the same amount of business. With a record-setting year at the domestic box office, with revenue surpassing $10 billion for the first time. Movie attendance in the U.S. and Canada grew 5.5% in 2009, with 1.42 billion tickets sold, the most since 2004. Ticket sales so far this year are running 10% higher.

Tickets are now raising to as much as 26% in many areas. According to the Wall Street Journal, “At one Seattle multiplex, adult admission is rising to $11 from $10 for a conventional film, to $15 from $13.50 for a regular 3-D showing and to $17 from $15 for Imax 3-D.

“The U.S. economy isn’t in the greatest shape, and there is definitely risk here in pushing price too far in a weak economy,” said Richard Greenfield, a media analyst at BTIG LLC, who issued a research report Wednesday on the price hikes.

Mr. Greenfield said the next month will serve as a test of the strategy. “We’ll have a sense if there is any pushback” from moviegoers, he said.

With this being said, it might be beneficial to figure out alternative plans to go out and have fun. Many may convert to a night stay in for a date night, rather than going out. If this is the case, rising movie theater costs may also increase the price of renting a movie as well as the crowds at the video store.

Money saving tip: Try stocking up on your own movies in advance. Have release parties at home when a new movie just hits on DVD. Order pizza and stock up on popcorn and candy to make it feel like you are getting away in the comfort of your own home. A way to make sure you have your movies reserved and in-hand is to pre-order movies online when possible and then have them conveniently mailed to your front door.

Entertainment For Christian Social Gatherings

Bible Study

Bible Study

As a leader in my Church hometeam, I am always having a hard time trying to find new fun Christian entertainment ideas that really engage others at social gatherings. For example, as a leader of a church hometeam,  I needed to find creative games and icebreakers for my group Bible study. And for a baby shower that we wanted to have for one of our members I wanted to find Christian theme baby games. I have done some research and have found a few interesting ideas that I would like to share for different events.

Christian Ice breakers:

The 10 Commandments: Write the 10 Commandments somewhere where everyone can see them. Read all ten aloud.  Go around the room and ask each person, which commandment is most important to them and why?

The Tower of Babel: Build the highest possible tower of Babel, using anything you allow in the room. You may want to provide a bunch of stuff like books, bibles, bowls, etc. After the leader’s signal the construction is stopped. You might want to provide tape and glue or something for adhesion. The number of points received by the players depends on the number of items it took to build the tower of Babel.

Name that Bible Character: Tape the name of a Bible character to the back of each person. Only the other participants will know which character they represent. Each person can ask questions about who they are e.g., male or female, Old or New Testament, The first person to guess who they are wins, and so on.

Christian Board Games:

Bibleopoly Game: One of the most popular Christian games of all time! BIBLEOPOLY has very unique game play. The object of the game is to be the first player to build a church in one of the Bible cities. In BIBLEOPOLY, you can’t win by destroying your opponents. You will only win by assisting the fellow players. Cooperation is what allows you to gain the things necessary to build your church and be a winner.

Bible Outburst  Game – Outburst Bible Edition is an uproarious party game filled with challenging and entertaining Bible topics. Each topic has 10 target answers. How many can you get?

Bible Trivia Family Edition – Fresh, new game play encourages positive thinking about the Bible’s teachings, and includes 100 children’s questions, making it easier for all age groups to play together!

Bible Scattergories – How many Bible categories can you match before time runs out? Roll the letter die to determine the key letter for that round. You roll a “C”. How quickly can you think of a “Place Christ walked?…” Canaan!… “Things that separate us from each other?…” Carelessness!… Can’t think of an answer? No problem. Just write down any answer that fits the category and you still score points if your answers are different from every other player. This game is entertaining, enhances faith and promotes learning.

Bible Bingo Board Game – “Bingo! I mean – Bible!” Bible Bingo puts a new twist on an old classic. Just cover the Christian symbols on your card to form a diagonal, vertical or horizontal line and win! Bible reference verses on each piece make it easy to look up passages while playing a fun game.

Christian Baby Shower Games:

Babies in the Bible: Have your guest list as many bible baby names as they can remember. The guest who lists the most names wins.

You Write the Hymn: Divide your group into at least 3 smaller groups. Give each group a classic children’s song, such as “Jesus Loves Me,” “Jesus Loves the Little Children,”  etc. Each group should rewrite the lyrics to the classic song, with the mom-to-be, her partner, and her baby in mind. After a few minutes, each group should sing their song for the mom-to-be.

Moses in the Basket: You will need to make one basket for each guest out of a napkin or a piece of white cloth. Inside one of them, place a piece of paper with the word “Moses” on it. At one point during the shower, ask your guests to all open their baskets. The one who has “Moses” wins.

Listed here are just a select few games that might help make your next Christian social gathering a hit. Please feel free to add your own ideas to our list by commenting to us in our comment section. We would love to hear from you!
